Strain Specifications
Specs and grow figures are a guide — results vary with phenotype, setup and grower. Checked October 2026.
Blackberry Kush is an indica-dominant feminized strain, about 80% indica, bred from Blackberry and Afghani, with a hashy flavour that Leafly describes as jet fuel balanced by sweet berries. It also goes by BBK. Its THC is listed at about 17–20%, and it is a moderate grow that flowers in about 8 to 9 weeks indoors.
History & lineage
Blackberry Kush crosses Blackberry with Afghani; Leafly lists that cross, and seed sellers’ spec sheets agree. Its origin isn’t well documented, though: Leafly credits no breeder, and a United Cannabis Seeds entry on SeedFinder notes there is limited information on how the strain was developed. Which Blackberry went into it isn’t published either, so this page says nothing more about that side of the family.
Leafly’s grow notes say growers describe dense buds in purple and orange, and a cooler finish can deepen purple tones; our guide to purple cannabis strains covers why some plants colour up.
Aroma & flavour
Leafly describes a hashy flavour with a jet-fuel taste and aroma, balanced by sweet berries. For Blackberry Kush as a strain, Leafly users most often report berry, sweet and earthy flavours, followed by blueberry, pungent and diesel, and seed sellers list berry and earthy for its taste. Leafly’s lab data lists caryophyllene as its most abundant terpene, followed by limonene and myrcene; our guide to cannabis terpenes explains what each one adds.
Effects, as users report them
These are Leafly users’ reports for Blackberry Kush as a strain, most common first; happy and sleepy are tied. The most commonly reported downsides are dry mouth and dry eyes, followed by dizziness and headaches, and some users report paranoia or anxiety. THC is listed at about 17–20%, and effects vary with the person and the dose, so if you are new to cannabis, start with a small amount.
Growing Blackberry Kush
Blackberry Kush is a feminized photoperiod plant: it keeps growing leaves until the light drops to 12 hours a day indoors, or until the days shorten in late summer outdoors. Expect about 8 to 9 weeks of flowering indoors; seed sellers’ sheets give 8 to 10 weeks and Leafly’s grow data about 60 days, so let the plant tell you. Outdoors in the Northern Hemisphere, it is ready in October.
Leafly and one seller’s spec sheet both rate it a moderate grow. Expect up to about 450 g/m² (about 1.5 oz/ft²) indoors and about 540 g (about 19 oz) per plant outdoors; Leafly’s grow data puts indoor yields at up to 430 g/m² (about 1.4 oz/ft²) and says it doesn’t usually yield heavily. Leafly lists it as a medium-height plant, and a seller’s sheet puts it at up to about 122 cm (4 ft). Leafly’s grow notes say it suits a sea of green (SOG), where many small plants are flowered early. Keep humidity down and airflow up in late flower to protect the dense buds from bud rot, and judge when to harvest by the trichomes rather than the calendar.
