Blueberry Kush Feminized Seeds

Blueberry Kush is an indica-dominant feminized cross of Blueberry and OG Kush, with a sweet blueberry, berry and earthy flavour. Leafly classes it as an indica; one seller’s spec sheet lists it as an indica-dominant hybrid, and another puts it at about 90% indica. It flowers in about 8 to 10 weeks indoors, and Leafly’s grow data rates it difficult to grow.

History & lineage

Blueberry Kush brings together Blueberry and OG Kush. Blueberry was originally bred by DJ Short, and its history goes back to the late 1970s, when he was working with exotic landrace strains, and it reached the Dutch market in 1998. OG Kush’s origins are less certain. Leafly reports it was first cultivated in Florida in the early 1990s from a cross that supposedly involved Chemdawg, Lemon Thai and a Hindu Kush plant. Who first crossed the two into Blueberry Kush isn’t recorded: Leafly credits no breeder.

Both parents have Cup records. Blueberry, one of its parents, won the 2000 High Times Cannabis Cup (the Noon coffeeshop’s entry), and Dutch Passion’s Blueberry won that year’s Indica Cup. OG Kush, its other parent, won the Hybrid Cup at the 2011 High Times Medical Cannabis Cup in San Francisco (D & M Compassion Center’s entry).

Aroma & flavour

Expect blueberry first, then berry, sweet and earthy notes. For Blueberry Kush as a strain, Leafly users most often report blueberry, berry, sweet and earthy flavours, in that order, with pungent and flowery further down, and one seller’s spec sheet lists its taste as earthy, fruity and sweet. The most commonly reported downsides are dry mouth and dry eyes, followed by dizziness and headaches, and some users report paranoia or anxiety. Seed sellers list THC from 19% to 24%, and Leafly’s strain data gives 18%, so if you are new to cannabis, start with a small amount; effects vary with the person and the dose.

Growing Blueberry Kush

Blueberry Kush is a feminized photoperiod plant: it keeps growing leaves until the light drops to 12 hours a day indoors, or until the days shorten in late summer outdoors. Seed sellers give a flowering time of about 8 to 10 weeks indoors, and Leafly’s grow data about 63 days. Outdoors in the Northern Hemisphere, one seller’s sheet puts the harvest in late October, so check that the window comes before your first fall frost.

This is not a beginner’s plant. Leafly’s grow data rates it difficult to grow, and one seller calls it hard to dial in. Leafly lists it as a medium-height plant, which one seller’s spec sheet puts at about 150–245 cm (5–8 ft), so plan for the stretch in early flower. Leafly’s grow data puts its average yield at high; expect around 400–500 g/m² (1.3–1.6 oz/ft²) indoors and about 500 g (18 oz) per plant outdoors. The buds are dense, so keep humidity down and airflow up in late flower to protect them from bud rot, and judge when to harvest by the trichomes rather than the calendar.
