Bubba Kush is a heavy indica that has earned its reputation as one of the most recognizable relaxation strains in cannabis. First bred by Dinafem Seeds as a feminized selection from the legendary Pre-98 Bubba Kush elite clone, this version preserves the deep, physical stone and fuel-forward terpene profile that made the original a staple of West Coast cannabis culture since the late 1990s. At 90 percent indica, Bubba Kush is built for evening use — delivering a powerful, long-lasting body stone that experienced users seek out by name.

Genetics & Lineage

Bubba Kush traces its lineage to the Pre-98 Bubba Kush elite clone, which itself descends from Afghani indica landrace genetics crossed with OG Kush. The Pre-98 Bubba Kush clone became one of the most coveted cuts in cannabis history, prized for its extreme relaxation and distinctive fuel-earth aroma. Dinafem Seeds selected and stabilized this genetics into a feminized seed form that captures the elite clone’s character in a plantable format. The result is a 90 percent indica and 10 percent sativa hybrid with a compact, bushy growth structure and the unmistakable Bubba Kush stone.

Appearance

Bubba Kush grows into a compact, bushy plant that stays under 100 centimeters indoors, with very short internodal spacing and minimal lateral branching. This tight structure concentrates flower production along the main stem and short side branches, resulting in dense, chunky buds that pack significant weight into a small frame. The flowers are typically dark green with occasional purple flashes, covered in a sticky layer of trichomes. The compact growth habit makes Bubba Kush an ideal choice for growers working with limited vertical space, as the plant naturally stays short without requiring aggressive training.

Aroma & Flavor

The aroma hits with unmistakable fuel and gasoline notes right off the plant, layered over a foundation of rich earth and dark coffee. Spicy undertones add complexity, and a subtle hint of citrus emerges as the buds are broken apart. The flavor delivers on the nose — bold fuel and earth on the inhale, with coffee and spice notes developing on the exhale. A faint citrus brightness lifts the heavier flavors just enough to keep each hit interesting. The overall terpene profile is deep, dark, and savory — a stark contrast to the sweet, fruity strains that dominate modern menus, and a big part of why Bubba Kush has maintained its loyal following for over two decades.

Effects

Bubba Kush delivers a powerful, deeply physical stone that is among the heaviest in the indica category. The high hits with immediate body weight — muscles release, tension dissolves, and a warm, sedating relaxation spreads from head to toe. Despite the heavy body effects, many users report a surprising thread of cerebral clarity that keeps the mind engaged even as the body sinks into the couch. At approximately 18 percent THC, the raw number may look moderate compared to modern high-THC strains, but the indica potency punches well above its THC percentage thanks to the full-spectrum terpene and cannabinoid profile inherited from the Pre-98 lineage. This is a strain best reserved for experienced users or those specifically seeking deep relaxation — it is not subtle, and it lasts.

Growing Information

Bubba Kush feminized seeds flower in 60 to 65 days, roughly 9 weeks from the onset of the flowering cycle. Indoor yields reach approximately 500 grams per square meter, while outdoor plants can produce 600 to 800 grams per plant with a harvest window around mid-October. The grow difficulty is easy, making this an excellent choice for first-time growers who want a forgiving plant that still delivers serious results. The compact, bushy structure rarely exceeds 100 centimeters indoors, so height management is not a concern. Bubba Kush adapts to a wide range of climates and demonstrates notable drought resistance, adding to its beginner-friendly reputation. The minimal branching means less pruning and training work compared to more vigorous varieties. The dense bud structure does warrant attention to airflow and humidity during late flower to prevent any moisture issues in the tight colas.

Heavy Relaxation, Classic Indica

19 August 2025

This strain is potent. Bubba Kush came out with fat, sticky colas and a strong earthy smell. Smokes smooth but hits hard—instant body melt and heavy eyes. Within 20 minutes I was out cold with snacks on my lap. A knockout classic.

Who Doesn't Love This Strain

If your stuck and not sure what to pick, you can never go wrong with the BuBBa. Honestly I find this the most forgiving strain that I’ve grown. The Buzz is perfect! Dont forget about this one.

Effective

28 August 2024

The strain says 20% THC, but it feels like I’m smoking a 30% THC strain, it must be all the other compounds that makes this strain hit so hard.
